Our paraplanners provide key support to our financial planners – such as report writing, financial research, and helping with client enquiries – so you might sometimes speak with Rach, as well as your adviser.

Who is Rach

Rach Simons joined Investing Ethically in September 2025, making a substantial career move from biotechnology research. After graduating from UEA with a Masters in Natural Science, Rach worked for a company making gene edited bananas, coffee, and rice, with a view to improve the environmental impact of these crops. They are currently studying for their Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, alongside a lot of learning on the job.

Rach has been a qualified fencing coach since 2022, and teaches all of the beginner fencers at Norfolk Fencing Club and at UEA. Their main weapon to teach is foil, but they compete with a sabre!

Rach volunteers in the Hosting team at FoodCycle Norwich, following on from Tristam’s cooking shifts. She says it’s the best soup around, and is always grateful when there’s some left over after the guests have been served.

Rach likes to take part in the monthly quiz at Cinema City, under the name of the quiz master’s former film teacher (an elaborate story!). Rach specialises in horror movies, but only because she listens to a podcast about them – they can’t stomach actually watching the films…

What's it like working at Investing Ethically?

In the time since joining I’ve felt nothing but welcomed by everybody here, and by the clients I’ve interacted with as well. I’m greatly enjoying learning lots of new things following such a big career jump, whilst also finding out which of my existing skills are transferrable. The learning curve is steep, but everyone is always greatly supportive and really helpful when I’m struggling with a new process (as long as I get the tea right).
