Who is Lisa

Lisa Hardman has a degree in Development Studies and an MA in Education. She has worked with Investing Ethically since 2003, having previously spent eight years working for the international-development charity NEAD (Norfolk Education and Action for Development), on both their fair trade and international trade projects.

Lisa grew up in Denmark, lived in Japan for a year and came to the UK to study at university. She liked it so much that she decided to stay here!

Lisa regularly contributes to the financial press around ethical investment issues and won the Financial Times’ Money Management Award of Best Ethical Planner in 2018. She is married, with two children. She enjoys cycling to work and growing her very own fruit and vegetables. In her free time Lisa likes to bake, knit, read, wild swim, and row [boats not arguments 🙂 ]

Lisa is the resident company baker and regularly shares her cakes, to the delight of colleagues. This year she's challenged herself with each week's Technical Challenge from "Bake Off"!

Lisa is a keen rower on the local rivers - enjoying the tranquillity of being 'out on the water'. Her crew - the "Ladies who Launch" – set an impressive pace (she tells us).

Lisa has long been fascinated by Japan - and its peculiar mix of the ancient and modern. Since living there for a year, she's been back several times, and still speaks a little of the language.

What does ethical financial planning mean to you?

I believe we can all help make the world a better place and what you do with your money is one way of doing this. Your own financial security should not harm the planet or people. Indeed, the conversations I have with clients is more about being part of the solution to many of the problems facing planet earth and humanity, and ethical-screened investments are part of this. Since I have been a financial adviser, the range of funds available to ethically minded investors has increased significantly and the principle of ‘good business is also sustainable business’ has been proven time and time again. I invest my own money in many of the same funds as my clients, as I believe in them.

What's it like working at Investing Ethically?

I really enjoy it - the staff, the clients and the ethics! Financial planning is key to a sense of financial security. I find it very satisfying helping clients to understand their options – and to navigate through what life can sometimes throw at you. I love doing puzzles and financial planning is often like a jigsaw – taking lots of bits (investments, pensions, objectives, ethics etc) and putting them together to create a complete picture for a client. I am supported by some great colleagues. The primary contact for clients is the adviser but we are very much a team, all working together.
