Who is Matthew

Matthew Charles joined Investing Ethically in 2021 after completing a Master’s degree in Quantitative Financial Economics at the University of East Anglia. Since progressing from university into the financial planning profession, he has built several years of experience supporting advisers and clients across a wide range of financial planning needs. Matthew has completed the Diploma in Financial Planning and is progressing towards becoming a fully qualified Financial Adviser.

In his role, Matthew works closely with clients to help them understand their financial position and plan for the future. He has played a key role in developing and implementing Investing Ethically’s cashflow forecasting system, helping clients visualise how their wealth can support their long-term goals and lifestyle. This work forms an important part of the firm’s planning process, enabling clients to make informed decisions about retirement, investment, and major life changes with greater confidence.

Matthew and his wife Emily live in Dereham and have two young children, a beagle, and a cockapoo. He likes to torment himself by playing golf, loves cooking for his kids, listening to music, taking the dogs for walks and reading… when he’s not tidying up after the kids!

Fact

In summer 2023 Matthew got married and had a beautiful honeymoon in Nissaki beach, where he visited the Durrell’s white house and had a great boat trip, unfortunately not seeing any dolphins.

Fact

Matthew’s son is a keen tennis player and much better than his dad. Matthew watches him play each week and recently realised he needs to get practising to keep up with his son!

Fact

Matthew is a podcast fanatic and oddly enjoys his 45min commute as he gets to listen to his favourite podcasts on the way to and from work. ‘Diary of a CEO’ being one of his favourites.

What's it like working at Investing Ethically?

I really like the work ethos at Investing Ethically as everyone gets along so well and there is always a great conversation happening. Although we have things we need to complete and targets to meet the environment is very free and we are able to develop ourselves in different areas of the business and industry. It’s a small company which means everyone is very passionate about what they do and doing it to the best of their abilities which encourages you to progress and do your job well. The most interesting part of the role is researching the ethical investments and wider financial market and learning about our clients and how we can help them achieve their goals.
