In 2014 we volunteered our services to help a local charity –The Benjamin Foundation. Our task was to create a butterfly garden in their Great Yarmouth Aspire Centre. We were able to tidy the existing raised beds and introduce butterfly attracting plants, along with a herb garden for the centre. The Benjamin Foundation exists to help people across the county deal with many of the challenges that life throws at them. Some of these are tough issues like supporting homeless young people, working to improve family relationships and supporting children in schools with issues like bullying. The Aspire Centre focuses on the 16 to 25 year old age group and provides a roof over their heads and a range of support to help them towards an independent life. This may involve helping them with education, training, finding a job and planning career steps. They also help develop their life skills such as cooking and budgeting. Many thanks to Chris at Aspire for giving us this opportunity to support them and Jeremy for all his help, without whom we would never have been able to provide such an amazing garden.
FACT: 2.5 billion people don’t have a loo. That is 40% of the world’s population! – In response to such a disturbing fact, this year we have taken the small step of twinning the two toilets in our office with two toilets in Africa – one in Burundi and the other in Liberia. By donating money to Toilet Twinning, new toilets will be built in poor communities, along with improved sanitation and clean water. If you want to find out more go to www.toilettwinning.org.
Fossil Fuels & Ethical investment
