Earlier this month, Lisa represented Investing Ethically at a roundtable on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG). The event – hosted by ‘New Model Advisor’ – brought together industry experts to discuss ethical investment – what’s happening now and what does the future hold? As you might expect, the debate was wide-ranging and lively!
Lisa reflects: “Environmental, Social & Governance is a current ‘buzzword’ relating to whether a company or fund takes sustainability issues seriously. There seem to be a plethora of ESG funds that have launched recently – which is ostensibly great news – but how do we know how these funds are assessed and how credible they really are? ‘Green-washing’ is a concern, as it’s perhaps too easy to jump on the ESG ‘bandwagon’. For example, there are no formal qualifications in advising clients on ethical investments. Events such as this roundtable are a great way to share experience with fellow professionals and – Investing Ethically – as one of a handful of ethical specialists – is pleased to play an active part in such debate. There are always new things to learn, emerging areas of best practice – and this helps us to remain focussed on our clients and their ethical concerns.”
The event has been recorded and, when it becomes available, we’ll share the links.
